olw-player FAQ
Answers to the questions we are asked most often about formats, key changes, karaoke videos and the license.
Can I search and play YouTube videos with olw-player?
No. olw-player does not search or download content from YouTube. YouTube's terms of service do not allow extracting videos from its player, and karaoke videos are almost always protected by copyright. We chose not to offer a feature that would expose you and us to those problems.
How can I get karaoke videos with key change?
- From your own MIDI files, with Crea Video Lyrics: start from a MIDI or KAR file, improve the backing track, synchronise the lyrics and get an MP4 video of your own. Then play it with olw-player and change the key.
- With files you have the right to use: your own videos and audio, purchased or obtained under a license that allows it. Just drag them into the playlist.
- Straight from MIDI and KAR files: olw-player plays them on the fly, with lyrics and key from -12 to +12 semitones.
Which formats does it play and how far can I change the key?
| Format | Key change |
|---|---|
| MIDI and KAR | -12 to +12 semitones |
| MP4, MOV, AVI video | -3 to +3, without changing the speed |
| MP3 | -3 to +3 |
| CD+G (with the audio file of the same name) | -3 to +3, graphics always in sync |
On how many computers can I use the license?
On 2 computers. You enter the key with a right-click in the program window, on the License... item (or by clicking the license text at the top); the same item deactivates the license on one computer so you can use it on another. The bundle with Crea Video Lyrics has a single key, valid for both programs.
What happens after the 30-day trial?
To keep using it you need a license. Plans and prices are on the Pricing page: monthly, yearly or 5 years with a single payment.
Do I need Internet to use it?
Only to check the license at startup. Without a connection the license stays valid for 3 days from the last check; there are no checks while you work.
